NSQBA

Committed to quality and high standards

History

The NSQBA was formed in 2008 by a small group of like-minded bee breeders. Although some northern states have queen rearing programs, many do not. This association's initial goal was to help those small to mid-level queen operations with support on a broader regional scale and to pool knowledge from a wide range of beekeepers. Many of our members also assist and take part in other queen rearing programs.

What is the purpose of the NSQBA?

The idea for the NSQBA is to help the growing segment of northern breeders come together and work as a unit to be better breeders, share ideas, exchange genetics, strengthen the gene pool, allow the local beekeeping communities to buy from northern breeders, and maintain a genetic pool unaffected by AHB, both now and in the future.

What states are included?

Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode island, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois. Indiana, Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming. Breeders outside these areas will be considered on an individual basis. The states were selected for over-wintering climate zones, proximity to African bee territory, and other factors.

NSQBA benefits to customers: Knowing that you are selecting bees from a breeder striving to achieve the highest quality queens and genetics. NSQBA members are working to deal with problems associated with over-wintering honey bees in the northern climates. They provide a source for localized, acclimatized, and survivor stock genetics.
